- Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez is once again trying to change the Venezuelan constitution so he can stay in power for as long as he wins elections. Voters rejected his previous attempt last year.

- Confirm the dates for Hector El Father's tour in support of his last album, El Juicio Final.
- Tension between neighbors Chile and Peru remains high after a Peruvian general said that Chileans in Peru would leave the country in coffins or body bags. A video of the general making the remarks was posted to YouTube earlier this year.
- An American cruise ship in the Gulf of Aden was chased and shot at by Somalian pirates. Forty ships have been hijacked by Somali pirates this year. Somalia has not had a government for the last 18 years.
- Michael Phelps is named Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated magazine.
- At least 38 people have been killed - nine decapitated - in Tijuana, Mexico since Saturday.
